Okabashi sent me sandals free of charge in order to complete an honest product review for our readers. I requested a pair for myself and a pair for my 10 year old daughter to try out. She loves helping me with my product reviews and voicing her opinions on products.
Before I get to the review I would like to tell you alittle about this company. A man by the name of Behman Irvani and his family came to America from Iran and set up a shoe shop in Buford, Georgia over 30 years ago. He named it, Okabashi. They still remain in America. I admire that. They watched alot of companies shipping out and moving overseas in order to cut costs and to fatten their wallets. Mr. Irvani stayed put in Georgia because he believes in making quality products and supporting the country in which he resides. That is admirable! Another thing that I admire about this company is they make products that are good for the environment. Okabashi sandals are 100% recyclable. They encourage you to return your worn out Okabashi sandals, so they can clean, grind down and reuse them. They use a portion of recycled sandals when making new sandals. This is a company that cares about the environment and their customers.
I’m going to copy and paste some great information I found on their website regarding the design of their sandals.
Superior arch support and a heel cup promote proper alignment of the feet and spine. This can minimize strain on the knees, hips, and back and result in pain relief from several ailments. A toe rest prevents feet from sliding forward, allowing a more sure-footed step.
Reflexology-Inspired Massage Beads
Tiny Massaging beads are strategically placed across the foot-bed of each shoe to stimulate different areas of the sole. This component of our shoe design is based on the principles of a Japanese practice called Reflexology. The beads add another element of full-body comfort while promoting better circulation.
Signature Microplast™ Material
Microplast is a specially formulated, patented, recyclable blend of plastics that is far more durable than the plastics used in other, similar shoes and sandals. Our material is unique in that it is soft, flexible, non-slip, odor-resistant, dishwasher safe, and contains an anti-microbial agent.
I have a bad back and wearing sandals puts strain on my back. I was anxious to try out the Okabashi sandals. Unfortunately my feet are too wide for the type of sandal that I requested. So I wasn’t able to try them. My daughter scored, because now she has two new pairs of great sandals. We sent off for the Messina and the Rave sandals. The Messina sandals are in the picture above. I love that they have the, ” leather look”. I really wish these would of fit me. Would be nice if they were able to make these for people with wider feet. I measured the circumference of the largest part of my foot and it is almost 10 inches. I ordered size medium/large. I hope that helps you all in knowing if they will fit you or not. For a medium/large I would say if your foot is the circumference of 8 inches, maybe 8.5 inches these would fit you. My daughter really likes the Okabashi Messina sandals. She was surprised at how light they were and they were easy to run in. Her feet stayed in place and were easy to walk in. My daughter said they are really comfortable and the message bumps and the toe bump didn’t bother her at all, that they felt good on her feet. She also really liked that the sandals made her an inch taller. So jealous!!!
My daughter chose the Wave sandals in black/turquoise in medium/large. I tried hers as well and my foot is too wide for those as well. The same applies to this pair if the circumference of your foot is around 8 inches and you wear a size 8-9 shoe these should fit you fine. She said they felt good on her feet and her feet stayed in place while walking in them. They never slipped off of her feet once. On a rainy day we found out that they have great traction. The Wave sandals come in turquoise, white, silver, gold and hot pink.
I contacted Okabashi to see if they made a sandal that would fit a wider foot. They recommended the Maui sandals.
The Maui sandals have a lower arch bed then the other two pairs of sandals we received. This pair was a perfect fit for my foot. I now have a pair of Okabashi sandals of my own. Do you know how flip flops flop when you take a step, how your heal comes up and sometimes the sandal goes sideways or comes off of your foot? Well that hasn’t been an issue with these sandals. You get a little flop when you take a step and they don’t make that flopping sound with every step. They have never slipped off of my feet, thanks the the toe bump. I wear a size 8.5 shoe and ordered size 8-9, the length is perfect. The only thing I don’t like about them is that the part that goes between your toes is a bit thick. It’s something I will have to get used too. I can understand why Okabashi made them that way, for durability reasons. The Maui sandals come in 13 different colors.
I like the quality of the sandals we received and can see them lasting a very long time. Okabashi believes so too. They offer a two year warranty on all their sandals. If they break they will send you another pair. That’s right, I wrote it right- two years!!!!! That is amazing! With the quality of these sandals you can save soo much money. You won’t have to replace your sandals every year. I am actually shocked at the prices of the sandals for as well as they are made.. The sandals are super easy to clean, you can run them under water and rinse them off or you could even stick them in your dishwasher. Okabashi makes quality sandals with a very affordable price tag.
