Recently, my son, JJ King, and I were invited to take a trip on the metro to Sahara Square for the Los Angeles Red Carpet Premiere of “Zootopia” at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles, California. The unforgettable night was filled with laughter, great food and celebrity spotting around every corner.
The Red Carpet was decorated to represent the swank Sahara Square, which is one of the central hubs in the elaborate world of “Zootopia.” As we made our way down the Red Carpet, I couldn’t resist trying out one of the metro seats that lined the walkway into the theaters.
Before we took our seats, I had an opportunity to talk a bit with former fashion model Garcelle Beauvais (Francesca “Fancy” Monroe, The Jamie Foxx Show). We had both recently attended an exclusive Crazy 8 Back-to-School event with our kids and recognized each other from that event. I’ve seen her at several functions and she is always very pleasant and kind to everyone. Although the room was a bit dark, I was able to get a beautiful picture with her.
Shakira’s (Gazelle) dress was adorable, Jason Bateman (Nick Wilde) looked very debonair and a pregnant Ginnifer Goodwin (Judy Hopps) was absolutely stunning. After the movie, I briefly meet Shakira before her security detailed whisked her away.
Before we headed over to the VIP After Party, we had an opportunity to meet actor Ed Helms, who is known for his roles as Stuart Price in “The Hangover,” Andy Bernard in “The Office” and his work as a correspondent on “The Daily Show.”
The VIP After Party was incredible and I had an amazing time with my son, JJ King. There were crafts for the kids and adults to do. I personally made a ‘Judy Hopps’ hat for Joy and JJ King, being a young foodie, loved the array of food. Although we were socializing too much to do all of the activities, there were numerous photo booths, locations to take pictures with ‘Nick Wilde’ and ‘Judy Hopps,’ and they even had an animal crossing. I really loved the different magazine ads that portrayed real brands which were hung throughout the venue.
Throughout the night, we connected with some of the brightest stars in Hollywood. I love Hudson Yang as ‘Eddie Huang’ on “Fresh Off the Boat,” so it was a treat to get a selfie with him next to the Disney Infinity 3.0 booth.
JJ King was excited about meeting former Ultimate Fighting Championship Light Heavyweight Champion (now actor), Chuck Liddell.
We enjoyed our time in the world of “Zootopia” so much that we decided to become official residents!
At the end of the night, as I was about to leave, I had a surreal moment when I had the rare opportunity to meet Executive Producer John Alan Lasseter. He directed me into the perfect backdrop for our selfie together.
We missed meeting Katie Lowes (Quinn Perkins in ABC’s political drama series “Scandal”), Kristen Bell (“House of Lies” TV Series), Kym Whitley (“Animal Practice,” “The Boondocks,” “Young & Hungry,” and “The Parkers”), at the party. But that’s OK, God blessed me with a remarkable night and there is always next time.
Thank you, Disney Studios for inviting me to such a wonderful event. I love my one of a kind Driver’s License 🙂
The modern mammal metropolis of Zootopia is a city like no other. Comprised of habitat neighborhoods like ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown, it’s a melting pot where animals from every environment live together—a place where no matter what you are, from the biggest elephant to the smallest shrew, you can be anything. But when rookie Officer Judy Hopps (voice of Ginnifer Goodwin) arrives, she discovers that being the first bunny on a police force of big, tough animals isn’t so easy. Determined to prove herself, she jumps at the opportunity to crack a case, even if it means partnering with a fast-talking, scam-artist fox, Nick Wilde (voice of Jason Bateman), to solve the mystery.
