As a young girl, I always felt a sense of emptiness when I watched my friends interact with their mothers. Although I am thankful that my grandmother raised me, I can’t help wondering what life would have been like if my mother did not pass away during my birth. Would I have been as self-cautious and unsure of myself if I had her guidance?
I promised myself if God blessed me to live through the birth of my daughter; I would protect her, love her, and, through the grace of God, do everything I can to raise her up to be a confident woman.
So, as I read actress Kathryn Hahn’s new book, My Wish for You to my daughter, Joy, I began to reflect on the desires in my heart that I have for her.
As Joy grows up, my wishes for her are:
1) She will love herself no matter if she is a size 7 or 18 and see the gorgeous person in the mirror that her family knows.
2) As she pursues her dreams, she will not let her insecurities, friends, or naysayers hinder her focus, and she will always trust in God first.
3) Finally, that she will stay fearless and keeps the special spark within her that lights up every room that she enters.
My Wish for You‘ is a brilliant book that genuinely expresses the love between a mother and daughter. The book is inspired by the everyday life lessons of the author and actress Kathryn Hahn raising her own six-year-old daughter. The book is a heartfelt and touching meditation on the inherent power every girl has deep inside herself. Which is a timely and necessary message of the intrinsic importance of being who you are, no matter what the world tells you. To be curious, strong, and vulnerable. To live life on your own terms. To always look for that sparkle!
