After doing some research, I discovered out that the leading cause of adult acne in women was due to the hormone changes we go through during our menstrual cycle. This was a bit of an unfortunate discovery for me because I was hoping it was just a phase. Nonetheless, I decided to deal with my pimples head on and found some helpful tips that I wanted to share.

1) Wash your face twice a day – It’s important to wash your face in the more when you wake up and at night before you to bed to remove dead skin cells, impurities and extra oil the forms on your skin’s surface during the day. Wash your face with your hands with a gentle cleanser using cool, or warm water and pat dry using a baby washcloth.
2) Don’t touch your face – I know it’s hard to avoid touching your face especially when you have an annoying bump on your cheek or chin. However, trying to pop it can cause bacteria to spread, irritating on your skin or lead to infection and scarring.
3) Step out without make-up – When you are out and about doing your daily task don’t wear make-up save for when you really need it. Right when you see a pimple forming avoid using powders, foundations, and blush. If you decide to use makeup wash it off before you go to bed. What more, make it a point to use oil-free cosmetics that don’t have added chemicals or dyes.
4) Avoid certain foods – The good news is that you don’t have to give up chocolate. However, dairy products, greasy food, junk food and food high in processed sugars may trigger an acne breakout, therefore, avoid these and replace with fresh fruits and vegetables.
5) Check out over the counter products – There are several acne products on the market that don’t require a prescription and can be found on websites such as The Independent Pharmacy. These products have ingredients such as
benzoyl peroxide, glycolic acid, lactic acid, or salicylic acid, which helps control bacteria and dry your skin. Since these products sometimes cause severe dry skin use small amounts at first, especially if you have sensitive skin.
